Biology of Sex Differences, the Official Journal of the OSSD

Biology of Sex Differences (BSD) is the official journal of the Organization for the Study of Sex Differences and a publication of the Society for Women's Health Research. It is an open access, peer-reviewed, online journal published by BioMed Central. The goals of the journal are described in an editorial published when BSD was launched. BSD considers manuscripts on all aspects of the effects of sex on biology and disease.

Topic areas include, but are not limited to sex differences in:

  • the genome
  • molecular and cell biology
  • tissue biology
  • physiology
  • interaction of tissue systems, in any system including adipose, behavioral, cardiovascular, immune, muscular, neural, renal, and skeletal, etc.
  • and clinical studies bearing on sex differences in disease or response to therapy

Articles published in BSD are freely available worldwide to anyone with an internet connection. There are no page charges or charges for color figures. In some cases, when the author's institution is a BioMed Central member or supporter member, the author receives an institutional discount from the full article processing charge.
