Publication Cost
Open access, online journals are freely available worldwide to anyone with an internet connection. The cost of publishing is paid by authors, or rather their institutions and/or grant-giving bodies.
OSSD will offer its members a significant subsidy to offset the article processing charges (APCs) associated with publishing in BSD.
Currently, the cost to publish in BSD is £1250 (currently ~US$1900 per article), regardless of the length or the number of color or black and white figures. In some cases, when the author’s institution is a BioMed Central member or supporter member, the author receives an institutional discount from the full APC. Please click here to check if your institution is a BioMed Central member. OSSD members will be asked to pay the full APC at the time the article is accepted, minus any institutional discount, but for the first few years of publication OSSD will reimburse a percentage of the cost . Manuscripts submitted before December 1, 2010, will receive an OSSD member reimbursement of $1,150 per article. After December 1, the same or lower reimbursement will apply, depending on the number of submissions.
The advantages of publishing in such a journal include the reduced time between acceptance and publication. Please direct cost of publication questions to the Editor-in-chief, Art Arnold, at editorial@bsd-journal.com.
