We welcome proposals in all areas of sex and gender differences research, including fundamental biology (such as evolution, genetics, molecular/cellular biology, microbiome, and physiology) to translational science and clinical research. Symposia should highlight an area of current research on sex and gender differences, although the committee will consider proposals on topics that are relevant towards one sex (i.e., hormonal contraceptives, prostate cancer). Strong proposals will include basic and clinical science (i.e., from bench to bedside).

We particularly encourage proposals on topics relevant to the National Institute of Aging, such as sex differences across the lifespan, and Food and Drug Administration, such as sex differences in the effect of drugs.  Strong proposals will consider involving diverse (career stage, discipline, demographics) speakers, including new speakers to the OSSD and speakers from different institutions and geographical locations. We encourage proposals that bring together interdisciplinary perspectives on a common theme and proposals that include a diversity of model systems.

Each symposium should have three to four speakers (slots 20-30 min each) related by a coherent theme, with topics accessible to a range of OSSD members. Speakers will typically be faculty members (or the equivalent), though we encourage that one speaker in each panel be a graduate student or postdoctoral fellow. The symposium chair(s) may, at their discretion, be included in the speaker line-up. Confirmation of willingness to participate from each speaker is necessary at the time of proposal submission. When appropriate, the Program Committee may work with the chairs to combine symposia or suggest additional/alternative speakers.

Proposal submissions require (a) symposium title and brief description and (b) name, contact information, tentative talk title, and rationale for selection of each speaker.

IMPORTANT!  We also invite individual proposals from faculty and senior trainees for talks in any relevant area. Accepted talks may be grouped into symposia or incorporated into existing symposia as appropriate. Please use the link below to submit an individual proposal.

Proposals should be prepared using the links below, by October 13, 2023
