The NIH Office of Research on Women’s Health (ORWH) is delighted to present the ORWH Women’s Health Seminar Series as part of our efforts to develop the Trans-NIH Strategic Plan for Women’s Health Research.

This exciting program will feature speakers presenting the latest information on scientific topics important to the health of women across the lifespan. Details for the upcoming seminar of the 2018 series are below.

“Sex Differences in Vaccine Efficacy”

Keynote Speaker
Sabra Klein, Ph.D., Associate Professor, Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health

Dr. Sabra Klein is an Associate Professor of molecular microbiology and immunology at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, where she is a leading expert on sex differences in immune responses and susceptibility to infection. Her research has been supported by grants from the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, National Science Foundation, and National Foundation for Infectious Diseases. In 2010, she received the Society for Women’s Health Research–Medtronic Award for Science Contributions, which recognized her scientific contributions as well as her commitment to mentoring other female scientists. In 2016, she received the Randolph-Macon College Distinguished Alumna Award.

Learning Objectives
At the end of this seminar, attendees will be able to describe findings regarding:

  • Sex differences in immune responses
  • Sex differences in vaccine efficacy in humans
  • Mechanisms that underlie sex differences in immune responses
  • New scientific data showing sex-specific differences in immune responses over the life course
