Hello, and welcome to the OSSD website! We are a leading international organization dedicated to better understanding how sex shapes human variation in health and disease. Sex matters - in basic science, and for equity in clinical care. Our mission is to: advance knowledge of sex/gender influences; create a space for integration across disciplines; offer an authoritative, reliable and balanced source of information in dynamic times; and nurture the next generation of scientists and clinicians working on this important topic. OSSD brings together an exceptionally thoughtful, kind, smart, creative and diverse community of people. As I take on the Presidency of OSSD, I am especially proud of - and grateful for - every one of those qualities. If you want a place to learn the very latest about sex influences on biological organization – what they are, how to study them, where the boundaries of knowledge are, and why these things matter for human health – then OSSD is the place to come. You will find all this and much more at our fabulous annual meetings (see you May 2027 in Killarney, Ireland!), through our widely attended webinars, and in our online community. I’d encourage anyone who is reading this, and new to OSSD, to dig deeper. People who do often find that it quickly becomes their main scientific home. And I’d like to send a special shout out to any trainees reading this. We see you, and I can guarantee that you’ll find a warm welcome, inspiring mentorship and sizzling science at OSSD. And to our existing members – hope you made it to the special 20th annual meeting in Hawaii, and looking forward to seeing you again in Ireland, or an upcoming OSSD Connected webinar. Please be on the look-out for announcements about these, and for new material posted regularly on this site.
